Stem-Level Bucking Pattern Optimization in Chainsaw Bucking Based on Terrestrial Laser Scanning Data

چکیده

Cross-cutting of a tree into set assortments (»bucking pattern«) presents large potential for optimizing the volume and value recovery; therefore, bucking pattern optimization has been studied extensively in past. However, it not seen widespread adoption chainsaw bucking, where time consuming costly manual measurement input parameters is required taper curve estimation. The present study investigated an alternative approach, curves are fit based on terrestrial laser scanning data (TLS), how deviations from observed (REF) affect result optimization. In addition, performance TLS was compared to traditional, segmental estimation approach (APP) experienced operator’s solution (CHA).A mature Norway Spruce stand surveyed by stationary scanning. TLS, were mixed-effects B-spline regression stem diameters extracted 3D point cloud data. A network analysis technique algorithm used during harvesting. Stem diameter profiles obtained measurement. former post-operation REF same as TLS. APP part For 35 trees, tree, trunk crown section level. patterns optimized with 30 CHA operation level.Taper estimated high accuracy precision (underestimated 0.2 cm average (SD=1.5 cm); RMSE=1.5 cm) outperformed APP. Volume recovery marginally higher (0.6%; 0.9%) than level, while substantial differences (–6.1%; –4.1%). Except cumulated nominal length, no significant between inferior throughout. significantly (2.1%; 2.4%), but mainly due small disadvantage algorithm. The proved provide highly accurate precise estimations curves. Therefore, can be considered further step towards increased accuracy, efficiency bucking.

Bucking a Global Trend

EPA’s research-based regulations have fostered significant strides in environmental improvement in the United States and inspired analogous endeavors around the globe. Notably, air quality has improved (https://gispub.epa.gov/air/trendsreport/2017/#highlights) over North America and Europe in recent decades, and China and India are making concerted efforts to protect the health of their citizen...

Bucking Decisions Anticipation

We consider a two-echelon timber supply chain in which the first echelon consists of several stands to be harvested and the second echelon consists of mills to be procured with logs of different length. This problem aims at minimizing harvesting and transportation costs for one production period, while satisfying demand expressed as mix of volumes of specific log types. Harvesting cost, which i...

Bucking the tide in family violence research.

This autobiographical article recounts a 60-year career on research and teaching, 40 of which focused on interpersonal violence against other family members. Much of that research was carried despite prevailing beliefs which characterized either the methodology or the theory to be wrong. The article illustrates four underlining themes: iconoclasm; capitalizing on chance occurrences to select re...

Annual timber procurement planning with bucking decisions

The problem we consider is a practical multiple-period wood procurement planning problem in the Eastern Canadian context. The forest cut blocks are large and heterogeneous; they have different densities and the diameter of the trees varies. This is a difficult forest management problem because it integrates two related problems: the forest bucking problem with a cut-to-length (CTL) bucking syst...
